The worst ice storm in 100 years couldn’t keep aspiring Oklahoma artists, like Tulsa residents David Cook and Alaina Whitaker, from attending the 2007 My Big Break contest auditions. Nearly 500 people braved the storm to chase their dreams. My Big Break proved that there are superstars right here in our community, looking for their big break into the Hollywood spotlight and no one knows it better than American Idol 2008 finalists David Cook, 23, and Alaina Whitaker, 17. Whitaker, an American Idol top 24 finalist, was a My Big Break 2007 top 8 finalist and went on to win the $5000 grand prize with her older sister Brittany Whitaker, 20. David Cook, winner of American Idol season 7, competed with band mates the Midwest Kings, and finished in second place. Cook, one of the first contestants in line at the My Big Break Auditions at six o’clock in the morning, forces us to wonder who else might be in line next.
